Upshur County finalizes Primary Election results with canvassing Monday

BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Commission met Monday morning to finalize the 2024 Primary Election results.

According to Upshur County Clerk Carol Smith, 15 ballots were added during the canvassing process: four absentee and 11 provisional ballots. The additional votes did not change the outcome of any races.

Of the 14,450 registered voters in Upshur County, about 5,709 voted in the Primary Election, a turnout of 39.51%.

According to the final results, 482 of the people who cast ballots did not vote for or against the Upshur County Schools levy; it failed by 347 votes. In the Upshur County Board of Education race, a third of the votes were classified as undervotes, meaning voters did not vote for a maximum of two candidates on their ballots. There were 3,792 uncast votes in a race in where the winner was decided by just 21 votes.
