Two new cases of COVID-19 reported in Upshur County on Sunday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that two new cases of COVID-19 have been found in Upshur County.

Upshur County had not reported a single new case in August and recently announced the number of active cases had dropped to zero. No additional information on the two new cases was immediately released.

Both Barbour and Randolph counties also reported new cases on Sunday. Overall, the DHHR reported that 107 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m. on August 16, 2020, there have been 355,168 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 8,564 total cases and 160 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Sunday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Calhoun, Fayette, Greenbrier, Hampshire, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Morgan, Ohio, Pendleton, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Summers, Taylor, Upshur, Wayne, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 1,975 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 6,429 people have recovered and 160 have died. The daily percent positive Sunday was 2.21%.
