Margaret “Aggie” Ann Helms, 83, of Buckhannon, died April 24, 2026, at Crestview Manor Healthcare Center in Jane Lew. She was an avid painter who enjoyed gardening and ATVing and loved her animals.
Daniel Lee Carpenter, 48, of Buckhannon, passed away on April 21, 2026. He was a carpenter who enjoyed tinkering on cars and bow hunting, and is survived by eight siblings and many nieces and nephews.
Highland Landscaping and First Community Bank share the Buckhannon Country Club Bob Cupp Memorial Golf League lead at 42½ points after week two wins. Steve Hollen (FCB) took Low Actual with a 38, while Ben Leigh (FCB) and David Powers (Hank Ellis) tied for Low Net at 34.
West Virginia Wesleyan’s men dropped a tight 4-3 Mountain East Conference match to Route 33 rival Davis & Elkins, with playoffs looming and a final regular-season test vs. West Virginia State on April 24. The Bobcat women answered with a dominant 6-1 win in Elkins.
Wesleyan softball powered past Davis & Elkins in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader sweep, 9-1 and 12-1, piling up 21 runs on 25 hits. Morgan Greene and Mackenzie O’Brien tossed complete games as big homers and a 5-RBI day from Emma Putman fueled the surge.
