This week’s Hank Ellis All-Stars: Zach Calef-Boring and Dezi Pugh

BUCKHANNON – My Buckhannon is proud to present another edition of the Hank Ellis All-Stars. Each week we will select a female and male athlete at Buckhannon-Upshur that has had an exemplary week on the baseball or softball diamond, the lacrosse field, the tennis courts or the track.

Our Hank Ellis All-Stars for the week of March 20 – March 26 are Zach Calef-Boring and Dezi Pugh.

Calef-Boring is a senior on the Buccaneer baseball team.

In leading the Bucs to a perfect 3-0 start to the season where the Bucs 10-runned all three opponents, Calef-Boring hit the ball at a .667 clip going six-for-nine. He scored six runs and knocked in six runs. He also picked up the win, starting the game against Preston and going 3 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit while fanning three.

Pugh is a senior on the Lady Buc track and field team.

In their season opener, Pugh took first place in three events and broke a meet record in the Doddridge County Season Opener in the 300-meter hurdles with a new record time of 49.51. She was also victorious in the 200 and 400-meter dashes. She posted a time of 27.62 in the 200 and a time of 1:02.03 in the 400. She finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17:76.

Pugh, a cheerleader for B-U as well, capped off her week by being named to the Big 10 All-Conference Cheer Team.

Congratulations to Calef-Boring and Pugh as our weekly winners of the Hank Ellis All-Stars honor.
