When floodwaters recede, the hard work begins. For many homeowners in The HomeOwnership Center’s region who were affected by the July 21 flood event, the damage left behind is overwhelming, and the path to recovery is not always clear.

FEMA assistance is an important first step, but it does not always cover the full cost of getting the home back to a safe and livable condition. That gap between what disaster relief provides and what repairs actually cost is where too many families get stuck.

That is why The HomeOwnership Center has made a temporary change to its Affordable Fix Loan. For households affected by the July 21 flood, income restrictions have been waived. If you are a homeowner dealing with flood-related damage, this loan may be able to help you get across the finish line on repairs that FEMA funds could not fully cover.

The Affordable Fix Loan was created for homeowners on fixed incomes or limited budgets who need to make necessary repairs — things like electrical and plumbing work, HVAC, roof repairs or replacements and accessibility modifications. It lends up to $20,000 at a low fixed interest rate, with a minimum credit score of 600.
