Take the time to tour Vintage Rustic and More — now open on Marion Street

Buckhannon resident Diana Thompson shows some of her Christmas and vintage items at her new shop. Vintage Rustic & More is located at 61 Marion St. in Buckhannon and is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

BUCKHANNON – Remember the cute little toys that used to be the prizes in a box of Cracker Jacks? Remember when families gathered around the table and played games when they came in metal boxes?

Walking through Diana Thompson’s new shop guarantees to transport visitors back to a simpler time and bring back those special memories.

Vintage Rustic & More, located at 61 Marion St. in Buckhannon has something for everyone, including vintage toys, automotive items, vintage household items, glassware, linens, metal signs and much more. Thompson has items from some local artisans, including items crafted by Theresa’s Primitives, Rag Rugs by Pat and gifts by Raspberry Patch Crafts.

Thompson said her gift items include lots of choices for those looking for organic and gluten-free foods.

“We have gluten-free and GMO-free items, including spice mixes and teas, jams and jellies and organic sweet treats,” Thompson said. “We have gifts for the hard-to-buy-for men on your list, including items from the 1950s and 1960s which includes racetracks, train sets, comic books and racetracks.”

Thompson said some of the collector items she sells include girl gifts from days-gone-by and dolls like Holly Hobbie. She said items currently in stock include vintage ornaments, calendars, bowls, wooden ladders, games, antique toys, vintage-look Christmas stockings and much more.

Just looking around Vintage Rustic & More is quite a treat. Thompson said she is constantly adding items for sale and is very thankful for the help of Kay Sanders, who has an eye for making the displays look perfect. Thompson said Emily Moore helps her in the sales department.

Thompson said her reason for opening this business is because she had items from her grandmother’s estate.

“Lot of the items were toys my husband had when he was younger,” she said. “We had sales in Weston, but a lot of items didn’t sell. Some of it is things I have had for years after separating all of my Christmas items.”

Aside from having the items, she opened Vintage Rustic & More because she loves old stuff and knows shoppers will enjoy it, too.

“I love old stuff,” she said. “You get to a certain age in life and you reminisce about what you did as kids and what we had. It helps us to remember the situation, perhaps with our parents and our siblings. It’s not just me – all people are searching for things to help them remember good memories of growing up.”

Vintage Rustic & More is open Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
