Swim Bucs take five events in dual outing with Elkins

ELKINS – The Buckhannon-Upshur swim Bucs won five of 11 events but their lack of overall depth hurt them in the team score against the Elkins Tigers in a dual outing Wednesday evening at the Davis & Elkins College pool.

The Bucs were only able to put swimmers in six of the 11 events and wound up dropping a 73-43 decision.

The Bucs won four individual events and one relay race.

Reis Leonard picked up two wins as he took first in the 200-yard IM (2:27.95) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.71).

Carter Zuliani won the 100-yard freestyle (57.56) while Preston Bennett took the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.64).

The relay win belonged to Leonard, Owen Caynor, Zuliani and Bennett in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.93).

“Our end score really does not show how good our swimmers are,” stated Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jenny Bennett. “Our team is small in size with only 12 swimmers combined.”

The Bucs will be back in action next Saturday in the Berkeley County Invitational at Shepherd University.
