Softball Lady ‘Cats take one of two from Concord

ATHENS – The West Virginia Wesleyan softball team split an away series with Concord to take their conference record to 3-7. After sweeping Glenville State on the road, the softball team was looking to keep the momentum going into their second away series of the weekend. They won game one by a 4-1 score while dropping game two by a 5-4 score.

Game 1
The first game was dominated on the rubber by Kendall Stoffel who pitched a full seven innings allowing just two hits and one earned run. She collected an impressive 11 strikeouts to quiet the bats for Concord. Down 1-0 in the fifth inning, Carlee Iannone tied they game with a solo home run to left center. The game stayed tied till the top of the seventh where Sydney Leadbetter smoked a two-run single bringing around Megan McMackin and Maya Reyes. Another run came across in the inning on a fielding error to make it 4-1. Some notable players, freshman Mollie White went 2-3 at the in the designated player spot and Andie Dizon went 2-4 on the day.

Game 2
Game two was a tight ball game with all runs coming within the first three innings. Pitcher Josi Fix took the loss pitching 1 2/3innings allowing six hits and four earned runs. Wesleyan got on the board first when Kendall Stoffel reached on a fielding error scoring Brooklyn Osburn in the first inning. In the bottom of the first, Concord answered with a one-run single and another run scored on a fielding error in right field to make it 2-1 in favor of Concord. Brooklyn Osburn tied it up in the second inning with a one-run single through the left side to bring in Hallie Dinklocker. Concord answered again in the second with a one-run double, a one-run single, and sacrifice fly to make it 5-2. The Lady Bobcats chipped at the lead in the third with Gracey Arnold lacing a one-run single up the middle to score Andie Dizon. Emma Jackson followed with a one-run double to right center to make it 5-4.

Wesleyan will play at Salem University for a doubleheader Friday, March 29 starting at 12 p.m.
