Softball Lady ‘Cats start Florida Spring Break Trip winning three of four including a no-hitter against University of Mary

WINTER HAVEN (Fla.)- The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat softball team started off their spring break games at the Diamondplex beating both Bemidji State University and University of Mary on Saturday while splitting action with Edinboro (Pa.) and Southern New Hampshire on Sunday.

Game 1: Bemidiji State University (Saturday)
Pitcher Kendall Stoffel got the win, taking her record to 1-1 on the year. Stoffel pitched four innings allowing six hits, one earned run, and one strikeout. Molly White came in relief in the fifth for one inning, allowing one hit and 0 earned runs. The game was highlighted by a 12 run inning in the bottom of the 2nd. Brooklyn Osburn collected an RBI single to make the score 3-0, after Andie Dizon RBI singled in the 1st inning and Josi Fix scored on a wild pitch in the 2nd. To continue the offensive surge, Kendal Stoffel hot a 2 RBI single scoring Jenna Gomez and Brooklyn Osburn. RBI walks were also collected by Josi Fix, Andie Dizzon, Brooklyn Osburn, and Alyssa Rohr in the bottom of the second. Andie Dizzon collected a 2 RBI single to end the second inning rally making the score 14-0 going into the 3rd. In the 4th inning, Bemidiji State singled to right field bringing in their only run of the game.

Game 2: University of Mary (Saturday)
The player of the Game for the Bobcats was starting pitcher Josi Fix who pitched a complete game no hitter collecting 8 strikeouts on 109 pitches. In the 3rd inning, Andie Dizzon RBI singled scoring Brooklyn Osburn. Later, Kendall Stoffel RBI doubled to right center scoring Jenna Gomez. Brooklyn Osburn RBI singled scoring Courtney Fizer making it 3-0 Wesleyan in the 4th. Emma Jackson RBI singled in the 5th as two more unearned runs came around to score making it 6-0.

Game 3: Edinboro (Pa.) (Sunday)

On day two in Florida, Edinboro collected its first win of the season. Kendall Stoffel had the loss, taking her record to 1-2. Stoffel pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits, three earned runs, and five strikeouts. Josi Fix and Alexia came in relief, allowing no runs to give the bats for the Bobcats a chance to come back. Edinboro struck first in the third inning with a run on a wild pitch. The Bobcats answered in the same inning with a RBI single, scoring Alyssa Rohr to make it 1-1. Two RBI singles in the fourth inning gave Edinboro the lead at 3-1. In the seventh, Carlee Iannone had an RBI fielders choice scoring Gracey Arnold to make it 3-2 with two outs. The game ended on a line out to short stop as the Bobcats fell 2-3.

Game 4: Southern New Hampshire (Sunday)

The Bobcats earned their 3rd win of the season beating Southern New Hampshire in a close 1-0 game. The only run of the game came across in the 2nd inning as Carlee Iannone singled to left field bringing in Jenna Gomez. The Bobcats’ victory was lead by pitcher Victoria Wehrberger who posted 7 innings, allowing 2 hits, no earned runs, and 9 strikeouts. She retired the side in order for Southern New Hampshire in the 2nd, 3rd, and 7th inning. An impressive outing by the freshman aided the Bobcat offense as 11 runners were left on base.
