Softball Lady ‘Cats lose twice to Charleston

BUCKHANNON – After a long week of game postponing, the Lady Bobcat softball team played the University of Charleston at home in a doubleheader series. Sunday. The Lady Bobcats dropped both as game one was dominated by pitching for the Golden Eagles. In game 2, Wesleyan’s bats caught a spark but lost a close one late in the game.

Game 1

The Lady Bobcats mustered just three hits through seven inning against pitcher Brianna McCown. She pitched seven shutout innings allowing three hits and collecting 12 strikeouts. Josi Fix took the loss pitching two innings allowing four hits and two earned runs. Molliey White came in relief pitching three innings giving up four hits and three earned runs. Charleston got t two runs in the top of the second on two one-run singles. In the third inning, a sacrifice fly brought in another run. A two-run home run in the fifth inning and a solo home run in the sixth inning grew the Golden Eagle’s lead to six. Alyssa Rohr, Andie Dizon, and Gracey Arnold collected the only hits for the Lady Bobcats. Kelsi Brown pitched the last two innings allowing only one hit.

Game 2

The Golden Eagles struck fast in the top of the first inning having four runs come in to score. Some costly infield errors for Wesleyan allowed those runs to score. A big moment in the game was bottom of the fifth inning. Alyssa Rohr hit a single to start the inning off. Jenna Gomez followed with a single putting runners on first and second with no outs. A walk from Sydney Leadbetter loaded the bases with one out. Gracey Arnold roped a single to the right side scoring Rohr to make it 4-1. Emma Jackson came to the dish and smashed a ball over the left field fence for a grand slam and put the Lady Bobcats in front, 5-4. Charleston answered back in the top of the sixth with a one-run single to tie it at 5-5. In the top of the seventh inning, a two-run single put Charleston up 7-5.
