Softball Lady Bucs get one hit in opener against University in 8-0 loss

MORGANTOWN – The Buckhannon-Upshur softball Lady Bucs were one hit in their 2024 debut Wednesday evening in an 8-0 five-inning setback to the University Hawks in non-conference action.

The Lady Bucs lone hit belonged to Jansen Kimble who singled to left field in the top of the first inning.

Buckhannon-Upshur was their own worst enemy defensively committing five errors as just five of University’s eight runs were earned.

University took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after a three-run home run from Olivia Masoner.

A sacrifice fly by Maddie Campbell that scored Bri Royce gave University a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

An error allowed two unearned runs by the Hawks in the bottom of the third putting the Lady Bucs down by a 6-0 score.

University added a run in the bottom of the fourth and ended the game in the fifth on the mercy rule on a one-run single from Campbell.

University collected eight hits with Campbell and Masoner each getting two.

Sophia Lehosit picked up the win for the Hawks throwing all five innings allowing just the one hit while walking two and striking out seven.

Kynnedy Marple suffered the loss for the Lady Bucs pitching three innings. She allowed five earned runs on four hits while fanning two.

The Lady Bucs (0-1) will be back in action with a pair of games in Parkersburg on Saturday.

They will face Parkersburg South at 11 a.m. and Grafton at 1 p.m.
