Soccer ‘Cats tumble on the road at West Liberty, 2-1

WEST LIBERTY — West Virginia Wesleyan College traveled Sunday to West Liberty University in a Mountain East Conference matchup that ended in a 2-1 loss for the Bobcats.

Sinasi Emre Deniz notched his seventh goal of the season on a right cross from Casey Bunker in the 56th minute to put the Bobcats up early.

But a breakdown on two corner kick defenses left the net open for West Liberty in the 68th and 78th minutes as the Hilltoppers’ Jan Goebel and Rhys Lewis each scored.

The Bobcats now take a much-needed week off to await visiting Salem University on Oct. 8 for a Sunday 7 p.m. kickoff at Culpepper Stadium.
