WELLSBURG –The Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Bucs overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to earn a 1-1 tie on the road against the Brooke Bruins Saturday afternoon in a non-conference clash.
Eddie Marks gave the Bruins their 1-0 lead in the 16th minute of the game when he played a pass from the right channel from Ben Ferguson and scored with a shot to the far post.
Noah Radabaugh tied the game for the Bucs in the 64th minute in the second half.
Caden Andrick played a chip pass over a few Brooke defenders, and Radabaugh put a touch on the ball and scored with a shot to the near post.
“We could tell early on that even though Brooke lost players from their team last year that made a great run in the playoffs, they were still a quality team,” stated Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato. “Honestly, I felt we did a better job of movement and possession in the first half and had better scoring chances, but we couldn’t finish on our end, then gave up their goal on a quick transition. I commend both teams for being able to play a very physical match considering the heat on the turf this afternoon. Hopefully, once we see the film and work on a few things on Monday, we’ll be able to turn that into a win Tuesday night against East Fairmont.”
The Bucs were outshot by a 10-4 margin and trailed in corner kicks by a 6-1 margin.
Buckhannon-Upshur was guilty of six fouls while the Bruins were called for 11.
Buckhannon-Upshur keeper Dalton Auvil made nine saves while Jeremy Gilchrist stopped four shots for Brooke.
The Bucs are now 3-4-3 on the season.
They will return to action Tuesday on the road against East Fairmont.
Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m.
