Public service announcement regarding Cleveland Avenue closure

Bennie O’Neal Smith, 86, of Buckhannon, WV, died September 27, 2026. The owner of Bennie’s Used Car Lot, he enjoyed round-track and drag racing.

Rusty Randell Wamsley, 42, of Buckhannon, died on September 27, 2026. A master plumber and auto mechanic, he loved helping others.

Buckhannon-Upshur finished 11th at the Big 10 Conference golf championships, shooting a 404 on a marshy Stonewall Resort course. Rease Zirkle led the Buccaneers with a 97 as the squad looks ahead to the Route 33 Cup.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Cora Cottrill and Landon Wright are the Hank Ellis All-Stars for Sept. 21–27. Cottrill led volleyball to a 3-0 week with 27 kills, while Wright stopped 10 of 11 shots in two soccer matches.

Injury-hit Buckhannon-Upshur battled through lineup changes but fell 4-1 to Parkersburg South for its third straight loss. Kallie Perry’s free kick briefly cut the deficit to 2-1 before the Patriots pulled away.
