BUCKHANNON – Pop’s Furniture found its home in Buckhannon May 1, and the owner said business has steadily increased ever since.

Upshur County native and owner of Pop’s Furniture Robie Messenger said he’d seen a need for a new and used furniture store for a while and he wanted to fill that need in Buckhannon.

“It just seems like everywhere people have these yard sales set up and everybody has used furniture out there, and everybody’s wanting it and it goes fast,” Messenger said.

Messenger said some of the business’s most popular items are living room furniture, such as sectionals, couches, recliners and loveseats.

“We try to offer many different options, including leather and cloth,” Messenger said. “We also have lift chairs for the elderly, and they are in very high demand. We have TV cabinets, and we will be having fireplaces and things like that for the wintertime.”

Other available items are bedding options that encompass new mattresses and box springs, bedroom suites, dining room sets, tables, chairs, rugs and wall art.

“I think we’re a great option because of the price point,” Messenger said. “We have excellent prices, we’ve got a financing option available now with no credit needed. I just think I’m at a great price point. Everybody’s offered Labor Day sales and things like that, or special holiday sales, but we have low prices every day.”

He said he usually accepts discontinued or closeout items to keep the prices low and offers delivery.

“We have delivery at a very reasonable rate, probably the cheapest around, in my opinion,” Messenger said. “If it’s local delivery, I’ll deliver a recliner sometimes for $25 and depending on how close it is, it might even be free delivery. It depends on the situation and what you buy, so the more you buy, the better the deal gets.”

Store manager Aaron Grose said one of them best days to see new items is Tuesday.

“With us being closed on Monday, that’s the day we come in and plug in new items for the floor, so if you’re hoping to see new items, that’s the day to come in.”

Pop’s Furniture is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and is located at 17 S. Florida St. in Buckhannon. The store has a Facebook page on which Pop’s employees will post updates on new furniture and people can see what is currently available at Pop’s Furniture LLC. The business’s phone number is 304-472-2234.
