Pioneer Art Shop set to feature works of Glenville State College Students

GLENVILLE, WV – Students in the Art and Design Program at Glenville State College (GSC) are gaining real-world experience while also showcasing their artwork in the new Pioneer Art Shop, located in the gallery of the Fine Arts Center.

The Pioneer Art Shop features the artwork of GSC students, while also giving them an opportunity to learn, with faculty guidance, pricing, presentation, craftsmanship, how to research the market and create items that will appeal to buyers, and other lessons relating to the process of creating and selling art to the consumer. For students who hope to pursue careers in museum curation, gallery management, and more, the Pioneer Art Shop will provide invaluable, hands-on experience and insight into the field.

Current students will have priority to submit work for the shop as a supplement to their learning, but recent graduates, faculty, and staff are also be invited to submit work for inclusion into the shop as space becomes available.

“The faculty and students have worked hard to make the Pioneer Art Shop a reality, and we are excited to offer art sales to the campus and community,” said Associate Professor of Art, Christopher Cosner. “We also want to thank our generous donors who made this possible with monetary, books, and art supply donations to allow the students to offset the cost of creating their art. We hope everyone gets a chance to visit and the opportunity to purchase a variety of unique original art of all kinds.”

The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to follow the College’s social distancing and mask guidelines when visiting the gallery/Pioneer Art Shop. For more information, call (304) 462-6340.
