On December 9, organizations from across West Virginia will come together for the third annual Cover WV Day, a statewide initiative dedicated to helping uninsured West Virginians learn about affordable health coverage options and access free enrollment assistance.
The West Virginia Primary Care Association (WVPCA), WV Navigator Program, WV Office of the Insurance Commissioner and a broad network of nonprofit organizations and Community Health Centers are partnering to provide more than 40 walk-in locations statewide. Each site will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and staffed with certified Assisters — including Health Insurance Navigators, Certified Application Counselors and specialists — who offer free support with Medicaid, CHIP and Health Insurance Marketplace enrollment.
More than 100,000 West Virginians — about 5.9% of the state’s population — remain uninsured. Cover WV Day aims to ensure families have the information and guidance they need to secure health coverage before the January 15 Open Enrollment deadline, after which many individuals may have to wait until 2027 to enroll.
“The WVPCA is proud to stand alongside partners across the state for the third annual Cover WV Day, working together to break down barriers and connect West Virginians to the coverage they deserve,” said Megan Diehl, Director of Communications & Engagement for the WVPCA. “Health insurance can feel overwhelming, but no one has to navigate it alone. With experts available at dozens of locations statewide, we want every West Virginian to know that help is here, it’s free, and it can truly change lives.”
Residents are encouraged to visit any participating location on December 9 to receive free, in-person assistance with understanding their health coverage options and enrolling in a plan that meets their needs. No appointment is needed and walk-ins will be accepted at all site locations.
