Opal Annabelle Brown, 96, went home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 12, 2026. Born on May 13, 1930, to Matthew Hale Lane and Bernice Lane, Ann lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and love.
As the cherished matriarch of the Hull family, she dedicated her entire life to nurturing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating a legacy of warmth that will endure for generations.
Ann possessed a joyful spirit and a servant’s heart. On any given day, she could be found whistling while cooking large meals for her loved ones, tending to her beautiful flowerbeds, or singing along to her favorite gospel music. She had a passion for Southern cooking and was famously known for making the absolute best biscuits and homemade apple butter.
Ann didn’t know a stranger; her door was always open, and all were welcome at her table. She will be fondly remembered for her incredible ability to bring people together through her delicious food and her profound love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Bernice Lane; her son, Jimmy Blain Hull; her stepsons, Myron Hull and Edward Hull; her brothers, Jim Lane and Dewayne Lane; her sisters, Waunita “Noonie” Wilson and Pearl “Dixie” Hoover; her daughter-in-law, Julie Hull; and her husband, Charlie Brown.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her surviving family, including her sister, Mary Brown; sister-in-law, Betty Lane; her sons, John (Lana) Hull, Charles Hull, William (Barb) Hull, Gary Hull, and Brent (Brenda) Hull; her daughters, Shirley Turansky and Laura “Janey” Lowther; her grandson, whom she lovingly raised as her son, Eddie Hull; along with 29 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and 35 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the funeral chapel, with Pastor Treasea Crites officiating. Interment will follow at the Upshur County Memorial Park.
