One new COVID-19 case in Upshur County reported in delayed DHHR update Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 226 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State, including one confirmed case in Upshur County.

The DHHR update, which is usually posted at 10 a.m., was delayed until shortly after noon Tuesday.

Nine additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 44-year old female from Cabell County, a 78-year old female from Clay County, an 88-year old female from Ohio County, a 77-year old male from Marshall County, a 71-year old male from Logan County, a 70-year old male from Logan County, a 90-year old female from Harrison County, a 65-year old male from Brooke County, and an 86-year old male from Cabell County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., October 20, 2020, there have been 690,803 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 20,519 total cases and 408 deaths,” according to a press release.

Upshur County’s infection rate and positivity rate both increased slightly on Tuesday, but the county remained gold on the daily alert map. Both rates should fall over the next three days if Upshur County continues to report low numbers of new cases.

A total of 60 cases are active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

New cases were reported Tuesday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Braxton, Brooke, Cabell, Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge, Fayette, Greenbrier, Hancock, Hardy, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, McDowell, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Monroe, Morgan, Ohio, Pendleton, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Ritchie, Roane, Summers, Taylor, Tucker, Upshur, Wayne, Webster, Wetzel, Wirt, Wood and Wyoming counties.

A record 5,113 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active,14,998 people have recovered and 408 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.01%.
