One COVID-19 case confirmed in Upshur County on Wednesday, three additional deaths reported statewide

Upshur County reported one new confirmed case of COVID-19 on Wednesday, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

Two Upshur County cases are currently active. No additional details about the new case were released.

Overall, the DHHR announced Wednesday that 145 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 61-year old female from Logan County, an 87-year old female from Ohio County, and a 72-year old female from Mercer County.

Eleven deaths have been reported in the last two days, and 74 this month.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m. on August 26, 2020, there have been 409,429 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 9,540 total cases and 190 deaths,” according to a press release.

According to the new color-coded county map, Kanawha County has moved to orange, meaning they will be unable to start in-person school and athletic competitions unless their case levels decline.

The ‘tweaked’ map provided by the DHHR lists two additional counties as orange: Logan and Monroe. The Harvard map, which the West Virginia system is based on, shows both those counties as red, while Kanawha, Pendleton, Jackson and Taylor are all orange.

In Morgantown, WVU announced Tuesday that they have completed intake testing with 154 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Classes begin today.

New cases were reported Wednesday in Berkeley, Boone, Cabell, Fayette, Grant, Greenbrier, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Logan, Marion, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Monongalia, Monroe, Nicholas, Putnam, Raleigh, Taylor, Upshur, Wayne, Wirth, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 1,749 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 7,601 people have recovered and 190 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.35%.
