City of Buckhannon announces traffic flow changes on Saturday as new WVWC students move onto campus

Storm, WVU Police’s newest explosives detection K-9, patrols campus alongside handler and alumna Isabella St. John. The energetic pup continues a decades-long tradition of four-legged officers helping keep Mountaineers safe.

Registration is open for the 56th Nature Wonder Weekend, Sept. 11-13 at North Bend State Park. The nation’s longest-running wild foods event features guided foraging hikes, workshops, expert speakers and culinary contests.

The Upshur County Firefighters Association will host a public meeting Sept. 10 to discuss a proposed fire fee increase on the Nov. 3 ballot. The proposal would raise the annual residential fee from $25 to $35. Firefighters will take questions from the public.

Dr. Julia Meade has been named executive director of WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Blood Disorders and Cancer Center. The pediatric oncologist will lead West Virginia’s largest pediatric cancer program and expand specialized care close to home.

Authorities are searching for missing and endangered Christopher James Chenoweth, last seen on foot near 160 Camden Avenue in Buckhannon. Use caution and report information to the Upshur County 911 Center at 304-472-9550.

LUCAS will offer low-dose lung cancer screenings in Rock Cave Sept. 29-30 and Buckhannon Oct. 1-2. Appointments must be made at least 14 days ahead and eligible uninsured West Virginians may receive screenings through grant funding.
