Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital receives “A” Rating

Weston, W.Va. – The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C-based organization aiming to improve health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, released new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ and ‘F’ letter grades to hospitals nationwide. Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, in Weston, received their third consecutive ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade for Fall 2021, the only hospital in West Virginia to achieve this designation. Both Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital and Mon Health Medical Center who received a B rating, lead the state with the highest ratings.

“Patient safety has always and will always be a top priority for us. Our hospital is a trusted part of this community,” said Kevin P. Stalnaker, Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Chief Administrative Officer. “We will continue to strive for greater excellence in patient safety and hope to achieve an ‘A’ on the next Safety Grade. Most importantly, we pledge to honor the trust of our patients by being transparent about our progress and working toward the highest possible standard of safety. This is the third consecutive ‘A’ rating for our hospital. To be recognized for patient care and quality in this way is quite an honor.”

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign the grades to approximately 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.

In the decades that Mon Health Hospitals have served local communities, the System has expanded to become nationally recognized for excellence. Mon Health leads the state in treatments for conditions that most affect West Virginians with heart care, robotic surgery, and gynecologic care. Mon Health Medical Center has been recognized as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery for its minimally invasive expertise with two master surgeons of note, and in Urology, is designated a UroLift Center of Excellence. Most recently, Mon Health Medical Center was recognized as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology. Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital is also one of only two hospitals in West Virginia to have a 5-star Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) rating and, rated as a top 100 Safety Net Hospital by the Lown Institute.

“We are sharply focused on doing the right thing, every time, for those we serve and are quite proud of what we’ve been able to achieve over the past year,” said David Goldberg, President & CEO at Mon Health System. “Nothing makes us prouder than to have been recognized by independent, third-party evaluators for providing the best patient care and experience in the region. That is always our goal.”
