A 76-year-old man died Saturday in a rock climbing accident on the east face of Seneca Rocks, according to the Pendleton County WV Office of Emergency Management/911.
The Washington Canoe Club identified the victim as Mike Robinson, a regular competitor in the club’s annual Havens 10K race.
Pendleton County 911 dispatched emergency personnel to Seneca Rocks at 2:25 p.m. on July 11. Numerous people and agencies were involved in recovering the victim, the emergency management office said.
“Our prayers are with the family and friends of the victim,” the office wrote.
The Washington Canoe Club said Robinson died in a fall while climbing Seneca Rocks. The club described him as “a most excellent friend of WCC.”
Robinson raced C-2 in the Havens 10K with his wife Linda, his daughter and most recently his adult granddaughter, according to the club. A celebration of life will be held later this fall.
“In the meantime, be like Mike,” the club wrote. “Keep getting out there and do the things that bring you joy.”
