Man arrested for allegedly shooting person in leg, foot following altercation Tuesday

BUCKHANNON — A Virginia man was arrested for allegedly shooting another man in the leg and foot following an altercation Tuesday.

Marvin M. Sills, 37, of Newport News, Virginia, was charged with one count of malicious wounding, a felony, and one count of fleeing on foot, a misdemeanor.

According to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s Office filed by investigating officer Sgt. Dewaine Linger with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, Dec. 15, Sills was allegedly involved in an altercation on Wabash Avenue in Buckhannon.

The report states that during the incident, Sills allegedly discharged a firearm, shooting Zachary Crawford in the leg and foot. According to the file, Sills subsequently fled on foot after Linger identified himself as a police officer upon his arrival at the scene.

Bail was set at $75,000 cash only for malicious wounding and $2,500 for fleeing on foot.

The potential penalty for a conviction of malicious wounding is confinement in a state correctional facility for not less than two nor more than 10 years, while the penalty for a conviction of fleeing on foot is a fine of $50 to $500, confinement in jail for up to one year or both.
