Lady Buc swimmers place third at Bridgeport Invitational

BRIDGEPORT – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc swimmers finished an impressive third in a loaded field at The Bridgeport Invitational this past Saturday at The Bridge Complex.

In a 12-team event, the Lady Bucs piled up 60.5 points for their third-place finish.

George Washington easily won the event with 180 points while Bridgeport was runner-up with 70 points.

Fairmont Senior and Parkersburg South both tied for fourth place with 38 points to round out the top five.

The Lady Bucs won two events with both victories belonging to Cadence Vincent.

Vincent won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.89 and the 100-yard freestyle with a clocking of 52.06.

The Lady Bucs picked up a pair of second places in their two relay events.

Lillian Fetty, Alayna Whitehair, Vincent and Rylee Yardley took second in the 200-yard medley relay (2:05.82) and that same foursome finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:52.26).

The team also recorded a pair of thirds as Whitehair took third in the 200-yard IM (2:23.18) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.66).

“This was a large meet with good competition,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jennifer Bennett. “It gave the kids a nice indication of how they are doing this early in the season. I thought the kids had a great meet.  Some of the teams we competed against had 40 kids. We are small in numbers but we have quality swimmers.”

The Lady Bucs will be back in action next Wednesday hosting George Washington in the West Virginia Wesleyan College pool at 6 p.m.
