PARKERSBURG – A rough first quarter doomed the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers in their road contest with Parkersburg South Tuesday evening.
The JV Bucs fell behind by a 28-5 margin after one quarter and it never got in any better in a 67-30 loss.
Bryson Johnston had three points and Luke Yardley two for the JV Buc in the first quarter.
Buckhannon-Upshur won the second quarter by a 13-12 margin with Johnston putting in four points, Keyton Lanier three and Carter Zuliani, Jonas Barton and Jaden Westfall two each.
That left the JV Bucs down 40-18 at the break.
B-U managed just four points in the third quarter, a basket by Barton and two free throws from Nathaniel Ringer, and trailed going into the fourth quarter by a 56-22 score.
The JV Buc lost the final quarter by an 11-8 count with Johnston and Ryan Kelley each putting in four points.
Johnston led the JV Bucs with 11 points.
Nathan Plotner led Parkersburg South with 13 points.
The JV Bucs are now 5-6 on the season.
They will be back in action Friday at Philip Barbour for a 5:45 p.m. tip.
