JV Bucs drop games to Jefferson and Grafton

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers dropped a pair of games during a three-day span.

The JV Bucs went to Jefferson on Saturday and dropped a 57-35 decision to the Cougars, and then at home on Monday, they lost a 50-49 overtime decision to Grafton.

Against Jefferson, the JV Bucs trailed 20-1 after one quarter of action and was never able to catch back up.

Shawn Blandino led the JV Bucs with nine points while Bryson Johnston put in seven and Luke Yardley had five.

Ty Vickers led Jefferson with 14 points.

Against Grafton, the JV Bucs were down 28-21 at the break but fought back in the second half to deadlock the game at 47-47 at the end of the fourth quarter.

The JV Bucs only managed two free throws in the overtime period and lost the outing by one, at 50-49.

Carter Zuliani had a game-high 13 points for the JV Bucs while Johnston tallied 12 and Nathaniel Ringer and Luke Yardley had six each.

Mason Dunham had 13 points to pace Grafton.

The pair of losses dropped the JV Bucs to 8-12 on the season. They will wrap up their campaign Wednesday hosting South Charleston at 5:45 p.m.
