Judith ‘Judy’ Lynn Fitzgerald

Judith “Judy” Lynn Fitzgerald, 81, of French Creek, WV the Evergreen community passed away on December 2nd after a sudden illness. Judy was born on February 15th, 1942, to Floyd and Ruth (Landis) Fitzgerald in Evergreen, WV. After graduating high school, she went on to study Library Science at West Virginia Wesleyan College. 

After graduating college, Judy moved to Ohio and worked as a librarian at the University of Akron until her retirement. She then moved back to her childhood home in the Evergreen community, where she spent her time reading and caring for family. Judy previously attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ravenna, Ohio and when she moved back home to West Virginia she attended the Laurel Fork United Methodist church and was a member of the Waterloo United Methodist Church.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ruth (Landis) Fitzgerald; brother Samuel Fitzgerald; and cousins Bill Fitzgerald, Mabel Christopher and husband Henry, and Mary Lou Jones and husband Morris. She is survived by nephews: Tim Fitzgerald and wife Cheryl of Oklahoma, Bryan Fitzgerald of New Mexico, and niece Michele Fitzgerald also of New Mexico; great nephew Timothy Fitzgerald of Virginia; great niece Christina Williams and husband Garrett of Texas; and cousins: Patricia Daugherty of French Creek, Jerry Phillips and wife Trish of Buckhannon, and Janet Depoy and husband Bill of Rock Cave. She is also survived by her beloved cat Calamity Jane.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 12 pm – 1 pm, the funeral hour, with pastor Treasea Crites officiating. Interment will follow in the Waterloo Cemetery.
