John C. Brake

John C. Brake, 88, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Bayfront Health in Port Charlotte.

He was born March 7, 1932, in Buckhannon, W.Va., a son of the late Hugh and Ada Lois Douglas Brake.

On August 21, 1950, he married Patty Ann Westfall who survives at Port Charlotte. Also surviving are four sons, David Brake and wife Vickie of Port Charlotte; Terry Brake of Fairmont, W.Va.; Patrick Brake and fiancé Amy Summerfield and Chris Brake and wife Lisa all of Buckhannon; two daughters, Angela Ann Phillips of Port Charlotte and Cheryl Friend of Bridgeport, W.Va.; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Eugenia Sedanko of Dublin, Ohio and Lois Wright of Akron, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Roger Linn Brake; one grandson, Jeffrey Brake; four brothers, Wendell, Linn, Donald and Neil Brake; one sister, Virginia Ihle and two daughter-in-laws, Mary Frances and Bea Brake.

Mr. Brake was a Maintenance of Way for the B & O Railroad and a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. He was also a 32-degree Mason at the Punta Gorda Lodge 115 F & AM, Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He loved camping and listening to bluegrass music.

Friends will be received Friday, December 11, 2020 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Stephen Engle officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Scottish Rite Foundation, Attn. Speech Clinic, 4550 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33912.
