Jeffrey “Brent” Wilfong

Jeffrey “Brent” Wilfong, 56, of Buckhannon, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born in Buckhannon on March 19, 1968, a son of the late Herbert Dayton Wilfong and Isophene Mae Bennett Wilfong. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Wilfong.

On May 28, 2005, Brent married Rebecca Jo Willis. They spent 19 wonderful years loving each other.

Forever cherishing their memories of Brent’s cheerful nature are his wife, Rebecca Wilfong; one brother, Kevin Wilfong and wife, Kathy, of Raleigh, NC; mother and father-in-law, Jim and Pat Willis of Buckhannon; brother-in-law, Ryan Willis and wife, Felicia, of Morgantown; niece that was like a daughter, Tiffany Phillips; great nieces: Elizabeth and Ava Phillips; great nephews: Dylan and Aidan Phillips; two nephews: Josh and Travis Wilfong; and special friends: Chad, Benny and Rusty.

He was a 1986 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School and a custodian for the Upshur County Board of Education for over 36 years. Brent enjoyed working at the Union Elementary School and spending time with the children there. He never met a stranger and was a man of many passions, each one painting a vibrant stroke on the canvas of his life. Brent’s love for nature led him to countless camping adventures at Blackwater Falls, where he found solace in the serenity of nature and the great outdoors. There was a certain magic in the way he could transform a simple camping trip into an unforgettable expedition, filled with stories shared around the warmth of a crackling campfire. His travel journeys extended to the Amish Country in Ohio, where he relished in the simplicity of life and the charm of the countryside.

In the roar of engines and the smell of burning rubber, Brent found an exhilarating sense of purpose. As a skilled mechanic, he spent many thrilling weekends at dirt track races in Elkins and Saltwell. His hands, soiled with grease and grit, wielded tools with the precision of an artist, bringing life back to weary engines and the spirits of the racers. As Henry Ford said, “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” Brent was that wind beneath the wings, always ready to lend a hand, always ready to uplift.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at Clutter Funeral and Cremation located at 21 Elnora Circle in Buckhannon from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in the Clutter Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brandon Kelley officiating.
