Jeannie Carol Bleigh-Chumney

Jeannie Carol Bleigh-Chumney, 68, of Ireland, slipped gently into the arms of the Lord on Friday, June 26, 2020 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.

She was born in Green Hill, W.Va., on February 4, 1952, a daughter of the late James Edward and Bernice A. Knicely Bleigh. In addition to her parents, two brothers: Terry and Sherill Bleigh preceded Jeannie in death.

On June 28, 2017, Jeannie married Robert “Bob” Ralph Chumney and they shared three wonderful years of marriage. When he first saw her at the Ireland Community Building it was love at first sight. He cherished their time together and will miss her dearly.

Cherishing their memories of Jeannie are her husband, Robert of Ireland; three brothers: Harold “Bud” Bleigh of Walkersville, Jack Bleigh of Crawford, and Pete Bleigh and wife, Sharon, of Buckannon; and several nieces and nephews.

Jeannie graduated from Weston High School and became a teacher’s aide. Her kind heart and gentle soul made her perfect to teach young children. She worked for the Lewis County Board of Education for over 32 years and was most recently placed at Peterson Elementary School. Jeannie was very active in the Ireland community as a member of the Shamrock CEOS, Ireland Lions Club, and a lifetime member of Ireland United Methodist Church. She always put others before herself and often donated her time to help serve meals at the Ireland Community Building for the Lewis County Senior Center. Jeannie was very giving and compassionate and will be missed by all who knew her.

The family requests that all visitors follow the current COVID-19 guidelines and wear a mask. Family and friends will gather for Visitation at Clutter Funeral Home-Alkire Chapel located at 190 Wildcat Rd. in Ireland from 12-1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor Earl Cayton officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Church Cemetery in Braxton County.
