James “Jim” Trexel McCartney

James “Jim” Trexel McCartney, 78, of French Creek, W.Va., died Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born July 28, 1942, in Buckhannon, W.Va., a son of the late Trexel and Geraldine Burr McCartney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife Vonnie Tenney McCartney and one sister, Janie McCartney.

He is survived by one son, Kevin McCartney and wife Michele of French Creek; one daughter, Kathy McCartney of French Creek; six grandsons, Cody McCartney of Buckhannon, Joshua McCartney and wife Sierra and Aden McCartney all of French Creek, Cordell, Jerimiah and Noah Nicola all of Buckhannon; three granddaughters, Heather, Rachel and Brooke Phillips and Shania McCartney all of French Creek; one great-grandson, Brenner McCartney of French Creek; two great-granddaughters, Bryleigh and Briella McCartney both of French Creek; one brother, Richard McCartney and wife Diana of French Creek and a nephew, Richard Gene McCartney and wife Tona of French Creek.

Mr. McCartney was the President of the Model A Ford Club of WV and he was well known for working on Model A’s. He was a muzzelloading gunsmith as well as a muzzleloader champion.

Friends will be received Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at noon on Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease L. Day officiating. In honoring Mr. McCartney’s wishes he will be cremated after the funeral service.
