Huelin Cecil Linger

Huelin Cecil Linger, 93, of Buckhannon, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 23, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Huelin was born on September 20, 1931, to the late Cecil and Marie Linger of Buckhannon.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Patricia (Tetty) Anne Starkey Linger – they were married on August 19, 1952 – as well as his six children: David (Kim), Donald (Cathy), Danny, Alice Alkire (Dallas), Darrell (Michelle), and Jeanan Hoover (Jerry); nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. His sister, Carol Ann Armstrong (Ken), also survives in Fort Myers, Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, James, and his sister, Wava Snyder (Nelson).

He graduated from Tennerton High School in 1948 and served two years in the Korean War (1952–1954), earning the Combat Infantry Badge and three bronze service stars. In 1948, he began a long career at Home Hardware — greeting everyone with a “Hey farmer!” — and later owned and operated a farm on Stony Run Road.

A born-again Christian, Huelin accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1944 and never looked back. He was a devoted member of the Hampton United Methodist Church for 72 years until its closure last summer, and he later attended Good Hope Tabernacle. Known for wishing everyone “Merry Christmas!” and singing “Joy to the World” year-round, he was a committed witness for Christ throughout his life.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 4–8:00 PM. The funeral will be held at the Good Hope Tabernacle on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Pastors Mike Hinkle, Holly J. Hoover, and J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Interment will follow at Hampton Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Upshur County Honor Guard.

Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.heavnerandcutright.com.
