Glenville State Homecoming 2019 Events Announced

GLENVILLE, WV – The Glenville State College Homecoming Committee has planned a number of activities for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends during the week of October 14 for GSC’s annual Homecoming celebration. This year’s theme is ‘Game On, Glenville.’ Everyone is encouraged to make plans to come back to Glenville for the annual celebration.

As a thank you for all that they do for the students of West Virginia and beyond, this year GSC will be honoring its teacher education alumni. 

All Glenville State College teacher education graduates are invited back to campus to be recognized in the Homecoming Parade, at a special pregame tailgate, and during the football game. Those teacher education alumni planning to return should click here or call (304) 462-6116 to RSVP.

Coronation of the Homecoming royalty will be held on Monday, October 14 at noon in the amphitheater.

On Friday, October 18 the Lady Pioneer Softball team will sponsor a Homecoming Golf Outing at the Glenville Golf Club. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. For more information about the golf tournament, call (304) 462-6229.

A reception for alumni is also scheduled for Friday, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Alumni Center on campus. The GSC Women’s Leadership Circle will be sponsoring a themed paint and sip activity at 6:30 p.m. at the Waco Center. The evening will conclude with the Homecoming Pep Rally at 7:00 p.m. in the amphitheater. 

The week culminates on Saturday, October 19 with the Homecoming Parade in downtown Glenville starting at 10:00 a.m. Anyone interested in participating in the parade should call (304) 462-6400 for more information. All GSC alumni and friends are then invited to enjoy a tailgate picnic in the Morris Stadium parking area beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Former members of the Pioneer Marching Band are invited to participate in this year’s Alumni Band. Returning members can register at the Fine Arts Center at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, will march through the parade playing the GSC fight song, will be special guests at the alumni tailgate at Morris Stadium, and will be recognized and play the GSC fight song during the homecoming pregame show. Alumni members of returning Greek organizations Lambda Chi Alpha, Theta Xi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Delta Zeta will be holding tailgate reunions before the game. The groups will have special sections under the tailgate tent in close proximity to the larger alumni tent in which to visit and reminisce on Saturday.

Kickoff between the GSC Pioneers and the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats happens at 1:00 p.m. with a post-game tailgate that will feature pizza, wine, and refreshments from Lambert’s Winery immediately following the game. The post-game event is open to alumni and friends and will be held at the Waco Center.

The GSC Bluegrass Band will host their Annual Fall Homecoming Concert on Saturday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium. This year’s concert will feature Larry Gillis and The Hard Driving Swampgrass Band. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. General admission tickets are $10, children 5 and under are admitted for free. Closing out Homecoming Week will be the Alumni Softball Game on Sunday, October 20 beginning at noon at the Sue Morris Sports Complex. Call (304) 462-6229 for more information or to sign up.
