Higher Learning Commission Extends Wesleyan’s Accreditation

BUCKHANNON – The Institutional Action Council of the Higher Learning Commission has continued the accreditation of West Virginia Wesleyan College through 2029-2030. The HLC is one of six regional accreditors of post-secondary educational institutions in the United States, and covers the nineteen-state North Central region.

Accreditation from the HLC is based upon five main criteria: institutional mission, ethical and responsible conduct, provided quality, responsibility of quality, and institutional effectiveness, resources, and planning.

“Our entire campus community contributed to this critically important project. It spanned multiple years, and is the culmination of a lot of hard work by a lot of people.” stated Dean of the Faculty and Chief Academics Officer James Moore. “We are so excited to have received a total reaffirmation of our accreditation and to have been afforded the chance to move from HLC’s Standard Pathway to its Open Pathway, which is reserved for institutions that have successfully undertaken two consecutive visits.”

In addition to the extension of accreditation from the HLC, the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission also issued its annual reauthorization for Wesleyan to confer degrees in the State of West Virginia earlier this summer. The College will begin its Fall 2020 semester virtually on Monday August 17, and will announce an update regarding the remainder of the semester on Friday August 28.
