GSC Land Surveying Students to Benefit from Equipment Donation

GLENVILLE, WV – Several Glenville State College Land Surveying students now have more tools of the trade at their disposal thanks to a recent donation.

Representatives from Precision Laser & Instrument, Inc. (PLI) in Cross Lanes, West Virginia were on hand to present second-year students majoring in Land Surveying with equipment vests. The students also received an equipment pack including a measuring tape, plumb bob and sheath, compass, and gammon reel. The equipment packs were purchased and donated to the students through the efforts from former Land Surveying Professor Charles (Rick) Sypolt, as well as donations from Senator Dave Sypolt, Marshall Robinson, Jason Cobb, Thrasher Engineering, Greg Smith, and Leon Mallow.

PLI’s Jason Cobb said that his company is happy to be assisting the future surveyors. “I know a lot of GSC graduates, many of whom are still working in the area. Glenville State has a solid program, the most solid surveying program in the state I would say,” he said.

Precision Laser & Instrument has also made plans to make other equipment donations to the Department in the future.

“The gifts, given to each student, consisted of several commonly used articles in the surveying field with a marketable value of over $200. This was a great help to these students and should be a good incentive for future students. Faculty and staff here in the Department of Land Resources hope for this generous gesture to continue in the future. Additionally, we thank all of the ones who donated this year and hope to gain more donors in the future, providing students a jump forward to being better prepared before entering today’s work force,” said Earl Thompson, Lecturer of Land Surveying at GSC.
