Charles W. Gibson Library to host Open House April 25

Upshur County’s Aug. 31-Sept. 6 sports calendar features Buckhannon-Upshur and West Virginia Wesleyan teams in football, soccer, golf, volleyball and cross country. Highlights include Friday night football and Saturday’s B-U Invitational.

Coby Smith scored four goals and added an assist as Buckhannon-Upshur earned its first win with a 10-0 rout of John Marshall. The dominant victory was a resounding response to Friday’s late 2-1 collapse against Martinsburg.

Brogan Tenney and Rylen Carlyle scored twice apiece as Buckhannon-Upshur powered past Woodrow Wilson 4-1 for its first win of the season. Bella Nottingham made 11 saves for the Lady Bucs, who improved to 1-0-1.

Buckhannon-Upshur went 1-2 against tough competition at University High, closing with a dominant sweep of East Fairmont after losses to University and Linsly. The 2-4 Lady Bucs return home Monday to host Pendleton County.

Mountain CAP of West Virginia, based in Upshur County, will receive $66,438 through a federal juvenile justice grant program. The award is among $659,570 in grants to 12 West Virginia projects announced by Governor Patrick Morrisey.

WVU Medicine performed West Virginia’s first single-port robotic-assisted lung lobectomy. The minimally invasive approach may reduce pain, shorten hospital stays and speed recovery while keeping advanced lung cancer care closer to home.
