Fall into new, fabulous wardrobe finds at Upshur Relay for Life’s Sept. 18 Fall Fashion Show

BUCKHANNON – Grab a friend and head out to the Outpost and Event Center located at 20 Raella Drive in Buckhannon this Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, at 2 p.m. for fun and fundraising!

The Upshur County Relay for Life is hosting a Fall Fashion Show while raising funds for Relay. Organizer Robin Oldaker said the event will be fun for all ages and give folks the opportunity to get out and welcome autumn, which is just around the corner.

“We are trying to think outside the box a little bit and wanted to involve our local boutiques because they have such great offerings,” Oldaker said. “Everyone I have talked to is so excited about and so ready for this event.”

Oldaker said the Fashion Show, intended for women of all ages, will feature clothing and accessories from The Outpost, Caroline + Co., Mountain Chic Boutique and Tateep. Admission is $20 and includes prize giveaways, gift bags for everyone and finger foods. There will also be silent auction items and a basket raffle.

“During the event, our boutiques will offer percentage-off coupons for their stores and hopefully, we will have some other prizes from businesses in the area,” Oldaker said. “Some local crafters will be on hand selling jewelry, T-shirts and candles.”

Cancer survivors of all ages will serve as the clothing models as well as sales associates from the boutiques.

“The boutiques have all sizes – some up to size 2X – which is something folks do not think of,” Oldaker said. “The Outpost carries children’s clothing also.”

Oldaker said she wants people to know the Fashion Show is not just for teenagers.

“This event is for grandparents, moms, daughters and children of every age and every size,” she said. “Some of the items will be offered for sale that day. I am very excited about the event; our hope is that this will appeal to many folks and that they will come out and have a good time and support the Upshur County Relay for Life. This is our first event for the 2023 Upshur County Relay for Life year.”

Oldaker said in Upshur County Schools, students are supporting the Coins for Cancer program by donating at their schools through the end of September. She said Upshur Relay normally offers a Christmas ornament for sale during the holidays, although the official kick-off for Upshur County Relay for Life is usually in February.

The group runs an Upshur County Relay for Life Facebook page, and people are encouraged to check that out for updates on events.

In July, the Upshur County Relay for Life held its main event and celebrated 25 years in Upshur County, bringing together cancer survivors, caregivers, family, friends and advocates to raise money and awareness of cancer. In 2022, the Upshur County Relay for Life raised more than $30,000.
