Fairmont State Athletic Association hosts 27th annual golf tournament with MVB

The 27th Annual MVB/Fairmont State Athletic Association Golf Tournament was held Friday with a great turnout and support at Bridgeport Country Club.

The tournament is one of the top fundraisers for the Fairmont State Athletic Department with net proceeds benefiting athletic scholarships.

“All of the proceeds from the tournament go directly towards student-athlete scholarships which are much needed,” Chad Fowler, athletic director, said. “It’s a great outing that gives our student-athletes the opportunity to play the sport that they love and get a great education at Fairmont State University.”

Fowler said the outing gives the community a chance to get involved and support the University but is also a way for the University to get out into the community.

“It’s a great community outing, we get people involved in a fun event and it’s for a great cause,” he said. “Our relationship with MVB and the support they give the University, and the athletic department in particular, is tremendous. We truly appreciate it.”

Tony Merendino, MVB’s Clarksburg branch manager, said they enjoy and value Fairmont State’s partnership over the years.

“We’ve partnered with them for a number of events throughout the years. We just greatly appreciate their partnership and support,” he said. “The tournament brings together us from MVB and Fairmont State but members of the community as well and it’s just really nice.

Fowler said the golf tournament not only raises funds for scholarships but it’s a great way to showcase the community partnership with MVB.

“This tournament allows us a chance to show what our community partnerships are all about and how they impact our student-athletes,” he said. “We truly appreciate the relationship with have with MVB and look forward to continuing it in the future.”
