Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Dempsey

Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Dempsey, age 75, of Weston, WV, died Saturday, December 24, 2022, at the Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston.

She was born June 28, 1947, in the Bronx, NY, a daughter of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Dempsey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Daniel, Jack and Michael Dempsey.

Betty was employed by the Department of Justice Federal Prison System from September 1972-March 1989, serving at Alderson, WV, Chicago, IL and Morgantown, WV. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Bluefield State College in June 1992. Betty worked at Abraxas Treatment Center in Parkersburg, WV and the WV Youth Advocate Program before becoming a Youth Service Worker for DHHR. She retired from DHHR in December 2016.

In honoring her wishes, Ms. Dempsey will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wood County Humane Society.
