ELKINS – The Randolph County Commission has selected Davis & Elkins College senior Tiffany Hinzman as its first accounting intern. The newly created, non-compensated position will provide Hinzman with real worldexperience in processes associated with a government entity.

Under the supervision and mentorship of D&E Assistant Professor of Accounting Lisa Daniels-Smith, Hinzman will assist with the collection of past due fire fees.

“She will be able to observe accounts receivable and work with customers to establish payment plans,” said Daniels-Smith, who also serves as an accounting consultant to the County Commission.

Hinzman was selected for the internship from a field of candidates interviewed by all three members of the County Commission.

“We were impressed with all the candidates, but Tiffany Hinzman really stood out in her interview,” said Randolph County Commission President Mark Scott. “We looking forward to having her work with us.”

An accounting major from Warrenton, Virginia, Hinzman recently returned to D&E after earning a degree in recreational management and tourism in 2003.

“I am grateful to be selected for this internship and look forward to gaining more experience and knowledge in a professional capacity,” Hinzman said.

The Davis & Elkins College Accounting Program prepares students with a foundation for the communication and analysis of financial information in the business environment. Coursework is designed to promote students’ understanding of accounting theory and their ability to apply accounting principles in the business environment. Students may choose to pursue an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree.
