Elkins, W.Va. — Davis Health System is joining hospitals throughout the country to celebrate National Donate Life Month in April.
National Donate Life Month features an entire month of activities to help encourage Americans to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors and to honor those that have saved lives through the gift of donation. Davis Medical Center, Broaddus Hospital, and Webster Memorial Hospital are participating in the campaign to educate the communities by raising awareness through social media promotions, celebrating National Blue & Green Day on April 22, and holding flag raising ceremonies to honor donors. On National Donate Life Blue & Green Day, the public is encouraged to wear blue and green and to engage in sharing the Donate Life message and promoting the importance of registering as an organ, eye, and tissue donor. Employees will sport their colors in support.
Although more than 170 million people are registered organ, eye, and tissue donors, more than 100,000 people are waiting for life-saving organ transplants. In 2021, more than 41,000 transplants were performed thanks to donors across the nation.
DHS is joining the campaign to increase the number of organ donors through community education. Throughout the month of April, information on how to become a donor will be available on websites and social media. Broaddus Hospital will hold a flag raising ceremony on April 13th at 1pm. Davis Medical Center will hold a flag raising ceremony on April 26th at 2pm. Both events are open to the public and will offer a chance for those in attendance to honor donors and celebrate recipients.
