Colonial Arts Center to host WVWC’s 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol in December

Buckhannon, W.Va. — Students and faculty of WV Wesleyan College Theatre and Music Departments are bringing their winter musical to the Colonial Arts Center Main Hall! This will be the school’s debut production in the new community arts center.

The 1940s Radio Christmas Carol, a book by Walton Jones, with music written by David Wohl, and lyrics by Faye Greenberg, is a family-friendly show that’s sure to get you in the Christmas spirit! This show is directed by Greg Mach, with musical direction by Dr. Dan Hughes, Set and Lighting Design by Keith Saine, and Costume Design by Elizabeth Tweel.

“The goal is to host a WVWC event at least once every quarter,” said Anne Wilson, Manager of the Colonial Arts Center. “When we first discussed doing this production, everything just seemed to make perfect sense for the CAC to host this musical. The best part is that on the final day of two shows, our downtown Main Street will be transformed into the Dickens Christmas Festival. I can’t think of a better time to bring this to our community!”

The show will be set on Christmas Eve, 1943. The Feddington Players are broadcasting from a hole-in-the-wall studio in Newark, NJ, and set to present their contemporary “take” on Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. Whether it’s the noisy plumbing, missed cues, electrical blackouts, or the over-the-top theatrics of veteran actor, but radio novice, William St. Claire, this radio show is an entertaining excursion into the mayhem and madness of a live radio show.

Performances are Thursday thru Saturday, Dec 1-3 at 8pm with a Saturday matinee on Dec. 3 at 2pm.
Tickets available at the door, $10 general, $8 seniors, $5 WVWC students and community of employees.

“I can’t wait for audiences to step back in time with us to World War II and the kooky characters in this play- what a great way to open the Christmas season!” says director Greg Mach.

The Colonial Arts Center will become a new space for WVWC to showcase work, highlight students and faculty, and open new performance opportunities.
