City’s plans to institute first due fee on hold — for now, at least

The Fred Brooks Garden Club has named its Strawberry Yard of the Month, honoring Robyn Riggs Simons of 16 Park Street in Buckhannon.

The Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility will host two free drive-up vaccine clinics in May, one in Upshur County and one in Lewis County. Funded by a $20,000 Petco Love grant, the clinics aim to curb canine parvovirus and feline panleukopenia.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Lady Bucs slipped from No. 4 to No. 6 in the latest MetroNews Class AAAA softball rankings with 55 points, while the baseball Buccaneers dropped from 11th to 12th with four votes. Cabell Midland leads softball, and Morgantown tops the baseball poll.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s track and field Bucs turned in another strong relay showing at the Harry Green Invitational, placing top five in every relay event.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Lady Bucs wrapped up the regular season with an eighth-place finish (40 points) at the Harry Green Invitational in Bridgeport. Rylen Carlye led the way with four top-five finishes, and the 4×800 relay posted the team’s best relay mark.
