City fire chief: Avoid blocking streets during W.Va.’s Largest Yard Sale

BUCKHANNON — Savvy shoppers from near and far are welcome to hunt down a great bargain in Buckhannon, but please don’t block city streets with your vehicle.

That’s the message Buckhannon Fire Chief J.B. Kimble said he wanted to spread Thursday at Buckhannon City Council’s meeting ahead of West Virginia’s Largest Yard Sale, which kicks off today, Friday, Aug. 2 at 8 a.m.

Kimble said vehicles parked in the middle of city streets or other roads will be subject to removal if fire trucks need to get through in the case of an emergency.

“It makes it hard for us to get through if there’s an emergency,” Kimble said, “and if you leave your car in the middle of the street, and we have an emergency, it may be removed physically.”

West Virginia’s Largest Yard Sale is slated for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3. Check out the sale’s online map here.
