Charles Elmer Anderson

Charles Elmer Anderson, 71, a resident of Manassas, Virginia passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at the INOVA Fairfax Trauma Center in Falls Church, Virginia as a result of injuries received in a vehicle accident.

He was born May 18, 1948, a son of Colonel Smith Anderson and Martha Lenora Weissert Anderson.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, one niece, Carolynn Frye and one brother-in-law, Paul Hardesty.

He is survived by two daughters:  Carla Anderson of Hillsville, Virginia and Susan McIntire of Wisconsin; three step children: Larry, Robin and Joe; four sisters: Alice Tolliver and husband David, of Rock Cave, Wilma Gaunt and husband Harry, of Buckhannon, Wilda Hardesty of Shinnston and Martha McKisic and husband Joe, of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles attended Frenchton Grade School and graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School.  He attended Fairmont State College until he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served from 1969 to 1973 and was discharged honorably. He then moved to Manassas, Virginia and worked at a brick yard until he became a self employed contractor.

He is described by his neighbors as helpful, kind and would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it.

Graveside services will be held at the Beechtown Cemetery at noon on Saturday, January 18, 2020 with Reverend Ralph Miller officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army and the Lewis County Honor Guard. The Frenchton United Methodist Church is hosting a dinner for the family and friends following the graveside services.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Frenchton United Methodist Church, 127 Burgham Road, French Creek, WV  26218.
