Cecil Ray McCartney

Cecil Ray McCartney, age 89, of Crawford, WV, died Monday, March 20, 2023, at the WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon, WV.

He was born February 7, 1934, in Cherry Fork, WV, a son of the late William G. and Dorothy Forinash McCartney.

On June 24, 1961, he married Margaret Joyce Gooding who survives. He is also survived by one son, Jason McCartney of Tucker County, WV; one daughter, Molly Jo Abromavage and husband Mark of Lorton, VA; two grandsons, Brandon McCartney of Abbott, WV and Zachary McCartney of Heaston Ridge, WV; three granddaughters, Hannah McCartney of Heaston Ridge and Emma and Ava Abromavage both of Lorton; one great grandson, Landon Hyre of Buckhannon; three great granddaughters, Alexis Carrier-McCartney, Savannah McCartney and Lucah Hyre all of Buckhannon; one brother, Delbert McCartney of Clarksburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. McCartney served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired as an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration and was a member of the Rock Cave Lions Club and SUBA.

Friends will be received Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 4 to 7 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10 AM Friday at the funeral home with Pastor David Jessie officiating. Burial will follow in the Heaston Ridge Church Cemetery in Crawford. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the graveside.
