Buckhannon to recognize Patriots Week with veterans events and resources

Buckhannon Mayor Robbie Skinner will proclaim September 8-14 as Patriots Week during the upcoming city council meeting on September 5, according to a press release from American Legion Post 7. During the week, numerous veterans-related events will take place.

A Veterans Resource/Information Fair will be held on September 9 at the American Legion Post 7 home, located at 16 S. Kanawha St. in Buckhannon. Participants at the fair will include Clarksburg VA Hospital enrollment, compensation and pension personnel, and representatives from the Morgantown Vets Center office. The fair aims to bring resources closer to Buckhannon and provide information about services available to veterans.

Representatives from the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Home in Clarksburg, Guitars for Vets, West Virginia Hospice, Mountain CAP, and the West Virginia Aging and Disability Resource Center will also be present. More groups may join to provide assistance and information to veterans and their families.

Legion members will be available to discuss joining the American Legion family, including Legionnaires, the American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and American Legion Riders. The Riders raise millions of dollars each year to help veterans, their families and youth.

On September 11, American Legion Post 7 will host VA-certified service officers from around the state, including a VA Regional Office claims officer. They will assist veterans and surviving spouses in filing claims and addressing questions. Those interested are encouraged to make reservations by calling 304-460-7377.

The quarter Veterans Appreciation Breakfast will be held on September 14 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Post home. A menu of pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and more will be served. The event is free, but donations are appreciated to fund future events.

All events are free, with donations appreciated, and will take place at the Post home at 16 S. Kanawha St. in Buckhannon. For questions or more information, call 304-460-7377. Coffee and donuts will be available on September 9 and 11, provided by the West Virginia Hospice Veteran to Veteran Volunteer Program.
