Gov. Patrick Morrisey signed a proclamation recognizing June 19, 2026, as Juneteenth Day in West Virginia, honoring the end of slavery and urging reflection on freedom. He noted West Virginia abolished slavery on Feb. 3, 1865, before the 13th Amendment.
