Buckhannon Community Theatre’s Mary Poppins opens Thursday

The Buckhannon Community Theatre presents Mary Poppins, the heartwarming holiday play based on one of the most popular Disney movies of all time.

Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.”

Mary Poppins is played by Olivia Insani, with Dannie Stiles playing Bert. Other local stars include Shelby Williams as Winifred Banks, Eric Jett as George Banks, Ella McNeish as Jane, and Pressley Bowers as Michael. Additional cast members include Julia Sanford, Lee Barbo, Patrick O’Neill, Danny Williams, Diane Williams, Mary Tillman, Gracie Tillman, Dr. Robert Rupp, and many other talented community members.

With direction by Laura J. Meese, music direction by Seth Stemple, choreography by Xavier Evans, assistant direction by Shawnte McWhorter, and Joni Cutlip whipping them into shape as stage manager; this will be a show you won’t want to miss!

Mary Poppins runs Thursday, July 25 – Sunday, July 28, at the WVWC Performing Arts Center in Buckhannon, W.Va. Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at www.buckhannoncommunitytheatre.com, or Artistry on Main.
